BOTH FEET TOGETHER

Past, future, present life.

Expectations once caused me strife.

Reflections in the mirror didn’t capture all of me—

The parts that make up my chemistry.

One foot to the left, the other glued to the right.

Compartmentalizing, convinced myself it was right.

I cared about what you thought of me.

Lived an illusion for the comfort of who you wanted me to be.

Feet slowly came together as I gave all my might.

Surely all hell would now break loose, and heaven would start gatekeeping its light.

To my amazement, I was not wrong or right.

I learned solace comes from expressing myself without a fight.

Without a condition, shutting out the noise.

Letting parts of myself express their voice.

Beauty isn’t always what I thought it should be.

It unveils itself when I let myself be.

There was no storm when I thought it would rain.

There was no turmoil when I thought I’d feel pain.

I came to learn different parts of me—

The parts that complete my chemistry.

My journey isn’t over; it’s just begun.

As my feet move together, I can finally run.
